Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered many other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials report initial examinations show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for information.
A senior official commented the incident rendered him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in 2020.
